Sick or injured

  • For an emergency, call 119 and say "Kyūkyūsha" (ambulance). Operators can connect an interpreter.
  • For non-emergencies, Tokyo's Himawari service helps you find clinics with staff who speak your language.
  • Bring your passport and travel-insurance details to the hospital.

Lost something

  • Go to the nearest kōban (police box) to report it.
  • Lost on a train? Contact that railway's lost-and-found first; station staff can help.
  • Unclaimed items are sent to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Lost and Found Center.

Lost your passport

  • Report it at a kōban or police station and get a report receipt.
  • Contact your country's embassy or consulate for a replacement.

Earthquake

  • Protect your head and get under a sturdy table. Stay away from windows.
  • Don't rush outside while it shakes. In stations and shops, follow staff instructions.
  • Install the Safety tips app (Japan Tourism Agency) for alerts in your language.
